“No one is listening until you make a mistake.”

Hello all,

Well, February was a very exciting month for us with the release of SharedPlan Professional Edition.  We received a terrific response, and we even got our first sales in South America and Africa!  Just Antarctica to go …

Thanks to the many of you who pointed out my incorrect download link in the last newsletter.  Hopefully, you actually found your way to the correct site, http://www.sharedplan.com/trial.html.  Judging by our download traffic, many of you successfully found it in spite of me.

Back From Asia

I just returned from a 10-day business trip through Taiwan, China, and Japan.  This was my first trip to Asia, and it was a wonderful, educational, and sometimes eye-opening experience.  I am amazed by the work ethic of the Taiwanese, who commonly work 12 to 14 hours a day.  I also enjoyed the good nature and happy spirit of the Chinese people in Shenzhen, China.

Because I had so many locations to visit in a short time span, I didn’t get to see too much of any single place.  I did spend a weekend in Shanghai, though, where shopping is a contact sport.  I tried to buy some toys for my kids, but found that most of the toys in the stores were the same brands that are sold in the US, although they’re probably manufactured in China.  I did manage to find a couple of items, and I was then thrust into the aggressive Shanghai bartering process.  I know some people really enjoy bartering, but unfortunately I am not one of those people.

Finally, I finished the trip in the clean, orderly world of Tokyo and Yokohama, where I experienced first-hand the effectiveness of the ‘train-stuffers,’ those uniformed people who push the last passengers into tremendously overcrowded trains.  The crush on the Monday morning rush-hour train was amazing; after a while I realized that I could let go of my briefcase and it would not fall to the floor because of the pressure.  Any concept one might have of one’s own personal space must be discarded.  This must be especially difficult for the always-proper Japanese, who seem to endure by standing silently, with their eyes closed, as if dreaming of far off tropical islands.

New SharedPlan Knowledge Base

Here's a great new tool!  Our customer service manager, Lourdes, has established a knowledge base to serve as the first step in a customer service query.  Check it out at http://www.sharedplan.com/support.html.  As time goes on, the knowledge base will expand with each new answered question, making it an ever more valuable resource for our customers.

A Useful Tip

If you use SharedPlan and you want to share your plans with others that haven’t purchased the software, like clients or partner firms, have them download a trial version of the Professional Edition.  The trial version can be used as a free reader program, not only for SharedPlan files but because it can import Microsoft Project files, it serves as a reader for those, as well.  As mentioned above, the trial version is available here.

Remember the Coupon for SharedPlan Professional Edition

PM Resources

I recently ran across this PM site recently:  http://www.newgrange.org/.  It seems like a fresh way to provide a forum for discussing PM issues, and I especially like the origin of the unusual name, NewGrange, which you’ll learn about on the site.

And finally, one of our readers named Laura forwarded this little tidbit of PM humor:  http://www.project-training-uk.freeserve.co.uk/index.htm

Thanks for reading,
