Visual Plan Work Area

Let’s take a minute and go through the Visual Plan work area. Along the top you will find window decorations that are peculiar to your window system (the window above is taken from Mac OS X; Windows function exactly the same but will display a menu bar as part of the application windows). “Untitled” is the name given to your project until you explicitly save it to a file of your choice or configure the project name.

Beneath the tool bar you will see the project work area. Think of the project work area as a canvas where you will create your tasks, create dependencies with other tasks, modify information related to the tasks (i.e. start date and duration) and view the progress of your tasks.

The project work area is the window you will use to create and modify the tasks in your project when using the Visual Plan editor. The methodology employed in this interface is known as PERT, or PERT/CPM, or most precisely, Network Diagram.
